Passmore Library 1899 Borough Rd SE1 London

A beautiful building dating from 1899. This has been empty for a number of years and is now occupied by guardians who pay a small rent to live here and stop squatters.Next door to this building, 400 flats will be built which does not bode well for the library as it sits on a relatively large site. With developers preferring the tower block route I worry that this will be demolished.Lets hope not as its such a joy.I used to go in this library when I was younger and remember the parquet flooring and the smell of floor polish. This library does not have a preservation order on it which is worrying as Southwark Council does not have a good record of preserving buildings of this kind.
