Horses for Hire Ghost Sign Cedar Rd London

2015-04-06 14.08.552015-04-06 14.08.43 Iv’e been meaning to take a picture of this ghost sign for a few years but always seemed to be on a bus passing by. This dates from as early as the 1900s from a time when horses were one of only two options of transport, walking, or horse and cart/carriage. Open carriages or broughams, pronounced “brooms” could be hired. The stables would have been through the gate that you can see in the photograph. The word “motor” can be seen over painted so the company must have had to move with the times and hired out cars too! Although the buildings have been converted into homes, the developers have had the sense to keep the walls as they are.
