Opened in 1938 and the first film that was shown…..Vivacious Lady……. starring Ginger Rogers.With seating for 2,000 people, the lights went down in 2000.Only the front is original, the back is home to flats.In its heyday, Streatham could boast of at least 4 huge cinemas, but with the invention of television, cinemas around the country began to close, finding a new lease of life as bingo halls or bowling alleys.Bingo halls began to close from the late 90s and buildings have lain empty ever since.
