J Ashby & Sons Ltd Embassy Tea & Coffee.Painted wall advert Union St London 1900s

This building has had various uses over the years. If you look closely, just below the tea sign you can see the word ventilator. This was a company called Haywards who also manufactured staircases manhole covers and lights. After the First World War,many of the buildings were sold which brings me to the next owner,Richard Edwin Jones who owned several hotels in Wales and also ran bakeries for which this building was used.
J Ashby & Sons are no longer in Union St.They now operate from Wimbledon. At this present time the building is still in use and not marked for redevelopment!UPDATE…..I have since found a manhole cover whilst walking in the West End behind Bond St that is from the company Haywards,as mentioned above. To say I got excited would be an understatement!little things………Look at post of manhole cover
