Almshouses Peckham 1839 London

Almshouses Peckham 1839

These were originally home to publicans or if you want the posh term licensed victuallers (?)
They were also called asylums which meant a place of sanctuary and not mad house as is commonly thought.Southwark Council now own them and they re social housing.I think they are called Caroline Gardens.Germans bombed it during the 2nd world war and the chapel took a direct hit.The only intact item to survive was a beautiful stained glass window. The chapel is now a work space and still in use by local people.
